It’s that time again.
The school term’s winding down.
Lunchboxes are getting more random by the day.
And your to-do list? It’s not winding down at all.
Welcome to the wild ride that is summer as a business-owning mum.
I see you switching between Canva and ordering snacks, attempting to insert client calls between searching for “mess-free crafts.”
One foot in the business. One foot in the paddling pool.
(And let’s be honest… no real foot in rest.)
So here’s the question I’d really like to ask: What if this summer didn’t have to be a mission to survive?
It’s Not About “Balance” — It’s About Designing Your Summer
Here’s something I’m always reminding my clients: You don’t need more hours.
You need more purpose and intention with the hours you have.
Summer is a wild card — let’s get real about this.
But with some soulful structure, you can have a good time off, create memories that aren’t guilt-driven, and keep your business alive without burning out.
Here’s what I do (and how I help others do the same):
Step 1: Put Fun First
Yes, I know — it sounds crazy.
Isn’t it in real life that we schedule work first and then “see what’s left”?
Nope.
Schedule in the things that are important before the calendar fills up:
- A week in July to fully disconnect.
- Fridays off for family adventures.
- Even just Tuesdays afternoons for beach walks or café chats.
What goes in the calendar first shows what matters.
Step 2: Let Your Business Breathe
You don’t always have to start something big in July.
You don’t have to be everywhere.
What you do need to have is a business that supports your season.
That could be:
- Publishing only your essentials.
- Scheduling ahead of emails and posts in June.
- Having definite “working hours” (even if they’re unconventional ones like 7–9 am and after bedtime).
Your business doesn’t require everything. It requires essence.
Step 3: Create Rhythm, Not Rigidity
If “structure” stresses you out — I understand.
This isn’t a drill. This is rhythm.
Perhaps:
- Mondays are CEO mornings and screen afternoons for kids.
- Wednesdays are light client days and ice cream dates.
- Fridays are laptop-free no-laptop zones.
When everyone has a sense of what’s next ( including you), the days go more smoothly. And your nervous system? Less fried.
Step 4: You’re Allowed to Say No
To the 17th summer BBQ.
To the collab waiting in the wings.
To the pressure of having to be “on” all the time, in your business and your parenting.
You’re not letting anyone down by protecting your peace.
You’re creating boundaries, and that’s a strength.
What If This Summer Wasn’t Just for Them?
What if it was for you, too?
Your children will remember the laughter, not the logistics.
They’ll remember the moments, not the inbox.
And you? You’ll recall that you decided to be here, not perfect.
Here’s your invitation, then:
Plot your summer with love, not with shame.
Opt for memories instead of madness.
And if you need help mapping it out, you know where to find me.
